Biliran Province State University's (BiPSU) official tertiary student publication, The Pillar Publication, clinched two awards at the 2nd National Campus Journalism Convention organized by Transforming Advocates and Champions (TRAC). Held from April 28 to 30 at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel, the event drew over 300 campus journalists from 63 universities nationwide.

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), through its Research and Development Office (RDO) and Innovation Office (IO), conducted a seminar entitled "Unlocking Innovation: Exploring the Path to Successful Technology Commercialization Strategies" on May 3 at the BiPSU Hyflex Audio Visual Center (HAVC).

The seminar aimed to address the challenges faced by BiPSU faculty members in transferring technical knowledge and innovations from research to the marketplace. It specifically targeted research chairpersons per school and faculty members with published intellectual property.

Experts from Samar State University (SSU) served as resource persons for the event. Engr. Raven Tabiongan, SSU's TBI Expert and Samar Island GIS and Data Analytics Center Director, centered his discussion on design thinking. Moreover, Dr. Vivian L. Moya, SSU's Intellectual Property and Technology Business Development Office Director, tackled fairness opinion reports on commercializing technologies and technology business incubation and commercialization.

BiPSU President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr. also attended the event and encouraged faculty members to participate actively and gain valuable knowledge that can contribute to the university's success in commercializing its research outputs.

Tacloban City - Biliran Province State University officials, headed by University President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr., successfully gained recommendation for endorsements from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for the university’s six (6) proposed IT and Infrastructure Projects during the Technical Budget Hearing for FY 2025 held at C Pavilion on April 29.

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), through the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), conducted the release of the SMART Scholarship Program at the university gymnasium on April 30. Amounting to Php 25,000.00 for each student, the financial assistance was made possible through the efforts of Hon. Gerardo ‘Gerryboy’ J. Espina, Jr., Congressman of the Lone District of Biliran.

Manila, Philippines - Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) President, Dr. Victor C. Caňezo, Jr. visited Adamson University (AdU) today to meet key officials for a potential partnership to enhance academic, research, and development sectors at both universities.

Among the key officials who welcomed President Caňezo were Dr. Venusmar C. Quevedo, Vice President for Administrative Affairs; Fr. Rafael K. Eloriaga, Vice President for Financial Affairs; Dr. Rosula S.J. Reyes, Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Merlinda A. Palencia, Dean of the College of Engineering.

The discussions centered on collaborative efforts for joint research initiatives, faculty and student exchange programs, extension services, and other innovative opportunities. Furthermore, both institutions expressed their commitment to a beneficial partnership that will drive academic excellence and innovation.

Following the discussions, Dr. Palencia gave President Caňezo a tour of AdU's facilities, including its state-of-the-art laboratories on Engineering programs.

Both universities are set to convene for another meeting to formalize their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) recently organized a training workshop focusing on Geospatial Data Acquisition and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from April 18 to 21. Led by the Institutional Planning Office (IPO), the event involved participation from faculty and staff of the School of Engineering (SOE), Engineering and Physical Development Office (EPDO), Research and Development Office (RDO), and the technical team of Biliran Campus.

The Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Region 8, under the leadership of PASUC 8 President, Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr., together with the SUC Presidents, Cultural Affairs Directors headed by the Regional Culture and Arts Coordinator, Dr. Nelson Enage, is set to make its mark on the national stage as it heads to compete in the National Culture and Arts Festival (NCAF) hosted at the Philippine Normal University (PNU) in Manila, from April 23- 25.

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Biliran, organized a seminar focusing on the Application of Eco-Sep Technology and its Impact on Waste Management. The event took place at the BiPSU Hyflex Audio Visual Center (HAVC) on April 19.

The seminar aimed to address the escalating concerns about environmental sustainability and effective waste management practices. It also provided a comprehensive discussion on the overview, impact, and application of Eco-Sep Technology.

In his welcome remarks, BiPSU President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr. emphasized the growing recognition of Biliran Province as a tourism destination and the associated waste management challenges.

“As mentioned, we are one of the tourism hubs in the region. With this, kasi we have potentials here sa tourism, ang dami nang pumupunta dito sa province. Of course, kapag maraming visitors, guests, tourists, isa sa magiging problema natin ay waste management,” said President Cañezo.

The event featured Dr. Merlinda A. Palencia, Dean of the College of Engineering at Adamson University (AdU), who presented her commercialized research titled “Vigormin”. This product, composed of local and natural organo-minerals, enhances the removal rate of organic pollutants, absorbs heavy metals, and coagulates suspended solids in wastewater.


Dr. Palencia underscored that Vigormin promotes a healthier and cleaner environment by helping preserve the beauty of natural resources for future generations. She added, “This is also for our future generations. Para sa apo ng apo niyo. Para masabi nila na maganda talaga ang Pilipinas noon hanggang ngayon.”


The event attracted participation from university key officials, faculty and students from the School of Engineering (SOE), personnel from DOST-Biliran and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Naval, representatives from Higatangan Island, and several resort owners.
