Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) conducted a symposium titled “Crafting of Proposals for Research, Innovation, and Extension Grants for 2025 CHED Funding.” The event, conducted via Zoom on May 17, aimed to equip BiPSU’s teaching personnel with essential knowledge about the requirements and guidelines set forth by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for funding opportunities.

BiPSU extended invitations to CHED personnel to serve as resource persons for the said event, including Ms. Mayumi G. Belandres, OIC-CHED RMD, Mr. Gerhald I. Villasis, CHED RMD Senior Education Program Specialist, and Ms. Adelma C. Tercia, CHED RMD Senior Education Program Specialist.

During the symposium, Ms. Belandres and Mr. Villasis discussed the guidelines and requirements for the CHED Institutional Development and Innovation Grants (IDIG), while Ms. Tercia covered the CHED Grants-In-Aid (GIA) program. Both sessions provided insights for faculty members seeking funding support.

BiPSU President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr., along with key officials, research and extension chairpersons, and faculty members from various departments, participated in the symposium. Dr. Canezo delivered an inspiring message, encouraging faculty members to embrace the challenge of crafting proposals that not only meet criteria but also exceed expectations.

“The path in submitting proposal to CHED for funding is daunting task. But, let us embrace this challenge with enthusiasm and determination,” said Dr. Cañezo.

Notably, BiPSU has previously benefited from the aforementioned CHED funding, which has significantly improved the university's facilities and academic resources.

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) initiated the Pilot Implementation of the Alumni Mentorship Program with graduating students from the School of Criminal Justice Education (SCJE) on May 2 at the BiPSU Gymnasium. The program, organized by the BiPSU Federation of Alumni Association Inc., chaired by PCOL Felix G. Gervacio Jr., in collaboration with the Alumni Affairs Office under the leadership of Director Mr. Edgar F. Benaldo, and SCJE led by its dean, Dr. Archie T. Ramirez, witnessed the participation of 256 SCJE graduating students.

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) took part in the hybrid regional simultaneous flag-raising ceremony marking the 30th Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Anniversary and 4th National Higher Education Day today, May 13. Key officials of BiPSU, alongside its teaching and non-teaching personnel, participated in the hybrid event at the university gymnasium.

Under the theme "Transformative and Resilient Philippine Higher Education," the ceremony saw involvement from the CHED central office, CHED regional offices, and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

In addition, a virtual forum on mental health awareness and GAWAD Parangal 2024 is scheduled for May 24, with the Cascading of CMO No. 9, series of 2023, following on May 29, as part of the regional activities organized by CHED Regional Office 8.

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) actively participated in Biliran's 32nd Provincehood Anniversary celebration today, May 11. As part of the festivities, BiPSU’s teaching and non-teaching personnel joined a grand parade in Naval town alongside various government and non-government agencies, private groups, and other organizations.

Following the parade, a program featuring various activities took place, culminating in the "Sayaw sa Hudyaka," showcasing festival dances from each municipality in Biliran.

In accordance with Local Executive Order No. 23, s. 2024, work and classes were suspended in public and private offices, schools, and establishments across the province, allowing Biliranons to fully engage in the commemoration.

This celebration marks the 32nd anniversary of Biliran's attainment of provincehood, which was officially declared on May 11, 1992, through Republic Act (RA) No. 7160. After 33 years as a sub-province of Leyte, Biliran emerged as an independent province, a milestone that is annually honored as a local special day under Proclamation No. 174.

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) recently conducted its annual administrative and tactical inspection in collaboration with the Regional Annual Administrative and Tactical Inspection (RAATI) team on May 8. Led by the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Office, the inspection focused on assessing the tactical proficiency of Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) students. This evaluation, conducted in accordance with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) program "Army 2040: World-Class. Multi-Mission Ready. Cross Domain Capable," aimed to enhance students' capabilities and readiness.

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) welcomed three (3) Information Officers from Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT) as they benchmark the university’s Freedom of Information (FOI) implementation and its media practices today, May 8, at the University Media and Information Office (UMIO).

The activity's purpose was to learn from BiPSU's standards, identify areas for improvement, and ensure effective FOI and media practices at PIT.

Moreover, the information officers from PIT  include Ms. Dia Rose Delgado, Information Officer III, Ms. Jeramie Malbacias, Information Officer II, and Ms. Lorlaine Joy Ramirez, Information Offcer I.

Furthermore, the said visitors paid a courtesy visit to BiPSU President Dr. Victor C Cañezo, Jr., along with the UMIO director and department heads and presidential special assistants.

Ms. Kristelyn Catadman Rubas from Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) represents Eastern Visayas in the Online Awitan Challenge 2024 National Edition organized by the Police Community Affairs and Development Group (PCADG) with the theme, “Pagkilala at Pagtuklas sa mga Kabataang Mang-aawit ng Makabagong Panahon.”

In an online interview, Ms. Rubas expressed her joy and gratitude for her unexpected victory, acknowledging the capabilities of her competitors while attributing her success to her faith in the Lord.

“I am so happy. I didn’t expect po na ako ang nanalo dahil magagaling din po ang mga kalaban but I trust the Lord,” she stated.

Further, the University Media and Information Office (UMIO) and the Cultural Affairs and Development Unit (CADU) respectively produced and conceptualized Ms. Catadman’s video of her rendition of “Anak” by Freddie Aguilar.

The university encourages the entire BiPSU community to support Ms. Catadman through voting via Facebook reactions, such as likes, hearts, comments, and shares. The judges will begin screening and scoring the entries from May 27-29.

Biliran Province State University's (BiPSU) official tertiary student publication, The Pillar Publication, clinched two awards at the 2nd National Campus Journalism Convention organized by Transforming Advocates and Champions (TRAC). Held from April 28 to 30 at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel, the event drew over 300 campus journalists from 63 universities nationwide.

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), through its Research and Development Office (RDO) and Innovation Office (IO), conducted a seminar entitled "Unlocking Innovation: Exploring the Path to Successful Technology Commercialization Strategies" on May 3 at the BiPSU Hyflex Audio Visual Center (HAVC).

The seminar aimed to address the challenges faced by BiPSU faculty members in transferring technical knowledge and innovations from research to the marketplace. It specifically targeted research chairpersons per school and faculty members with published intellectual property.

Experts from Samar State University (SSU) served as resource persons for the event. Engr. Raven Tabiongan, SSU's TBI Expert and Samar Island GIS and Data Analytics Center Director, centered his discussion on design thinking. Moreover, Dr. Vivian L. Moya, SSU's Intellectual Property and Technology Business Development Office Director, tackled fairness opinion reports on commercializing technologies and technology business incubation and commercialization.

BiPSU President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr. also attended the event and encouraged faculty members to participate actively and gain valuable knowledge that can contribute to the university's success in commercializing its research outputs.
