Empowering Agricultural Success: RSL VIII Conducts Soil Nutrient Management Training at BiPSU Biliran Campus

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) Biliran Campus, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Soils and Water Management – Regional Soil Laboratory (RSL) VIII, successfully hosted a hands-on training seminar on February 20, 2026, focused on Soil Nutrient Management and Soil Test Kit (STK) utilization.

The session brought together agriculture technicians from the Municipal Agriculture Office of LGU-Biliran and our very own BS Agriculture students for a comprehensive deep dive into soil science. Experts from RSL VIII led the discussions, emphasizing the critical importance of soil health and providing practical guidance on the proper handling and application of STKs. A key highlight was the introduction of the FertRight App, which helps technicians and students translate testing data into precise, science-backed fertilizer recommendations to optimize crop yields.

During the afternoon practical session, participants took the theory into the laboratory by conducting hands-on testing on selected soil samples. By utilizing the STK, attendees determined crucial soil pH levels and measured the concentration of primary nutrients: Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium (NPK). This real-world application served as a weaving of worthiness, where academic knowledge and technical expertise were combined to build a stronger foundation for our local agricultural practitioners.

Reflecting on the event, University President  Prof. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr., EdD, CHRP, emphasized the university's commitment to community development, noting that initiatives like this are essential in bridging the gap between classroom instruction and field application. By equipping students and local partners with the right tools and technology, the university is not just teaching agriculture; it is actively cultivating the future of the province’s food security.

To further bolster the university’s commitment to agricultural education and extension services, RSL VIII generously donated three units of STK bags to the school. This contribution serves as a vital resource for both future academic instruction and ongoing community extension efforts. The university expresses its sincere gratitude to the dedicated team from RSL VIII for sharing their expertise and technology, bridging the gap between research and practical application for the benefit of our local agricultural community. #WoWBiPSU
