Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) joins this year's celebration of the National Indigenous Peoples' Day, themed “25 Years: Fulfilling the Indigenous Peoples Rights and Bridging the Gaps through ICCs/IPs Convergence with Partners and Stakeholders to Ensure Economic Sustainability and Security in the Ancestral Domains” pursuant to Proclamation No. 486 declaring October 29 of every year as National Indigenous Peoples Thanksgiving Day.
As a university committed to promote awareness of the different indigenous groups and cultural communities in recognition and respect of their rights as an individual, the institution, through the leadership of Dr. Victor C. Canezo, Jr., University President has initiated programs that seek to help our IPs in the province including the provision of scholarships and financial assistance for Mamanwa students from Palayan, Almeria, Biliran.
DYK: The term Mamanwa means “first forest dwellers,” derived from “man” (first) and “banwa” (forest), and they are nomadic. Mamanwas from Basey Samar migrated and now resides in Barangay Caucab, Sitio Palayan, Almeria Biliran.
In addition, BiPSU encourages everyone to respect, help, and understand everyone regardless of what race they're from to achieve unity and diversity.
