BiPSU Teatro Biliran performs at nat'l theater fest

Teatro Biliran, the official theater group of Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), took center stage at the 18th Tanghal National University and Community-Based Theater Festival. The event, held at Siddhartha Theatre, Guang Ming College, Cebu City from March 18 to 20, brought together theater groups from across the Visayas region.

Teatro Biliran presented "Hapa, Kay Naa'y Hapon," an original play written and directed by Mr. Pepe Durano Bacay, the theater director. The play unfolds the narrative of a childless couple seeking refuge during World War II, captivating audiences with its poignant storytelling.

Mr. Kevin C. Tanguihan, Head of the Cultural Affairs and Development Unit (CADU), expressed gratitude for the festival experience, emphasizing its impact on the group's motivation to excel.

"The experience of Teatro Biliran in the recently concluded National Commission for Culture and the Arts—National Committee on Dramatic Arts Tanghal in the Visayas 2024—had brought a remarkable experience for each one of us. The camaraderie and rich community of thespians had driven the group to excel more," said Mr. Tanguihan.

Teatro Biliran also extended appreciation to BiPSU President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr. for the opportunity to perform outside the university.

"We are also very thankful for the support of our university president, Victor C. Cañezo, Jr., for allowing us to participate and experience the unforgettable Tanghal Festival," said Mr. Tanguihan.

The annual Tanghal gathering aims to strengthen the roots of theater in the Visayas and celebrate the region's cultural richness. Other performers this year included Kasing Sining, Kanlaon Theater Guild, USA Little Theater, among others.
