Continuing to gear up towards internationalization, Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), through its Office of the International Affairs (OIA), conducted the 2nd leg of the Internationalization (IZN) Seminar Training Series which started on April 29 until May 2 held at the University Academic and Wellness Center.
Present in the seminar were student ambassadors - student representatives of the different schools of the university, student leader representatives, and OIA focal persons.
The three-day training largely focused on training Student Ambassadors, who will be at the front lines of the University’s internationalization efforts.
According to OIA Director Dr. Maribel N. Zipagan, the IZN series also aimed to refine the OIA manual which was started during the first leg of the training and is currently underway.
“The OIA manual will serve as the guidebook of all internationalization efforts by providing comprehensive services and support to the students, faculty, administration and stakeholders.,” Dr. Zipagan said.
Furthermore, BIPSU, which aspires to be one of the region's tourism centers, is preparing to cater to foreign visitors and introduce them to the beauty and wonders of Biliran. Dr. Zipagan said that a tourism circuit is necessary to achieve this goal which, according to her, will be one of the upshots of the seminar.
Ms. Jennifer D. Montero, Regional Director of Camosun International College in Canada and CHED International Affairs Staff Partner, was the lead trainer in both the first and second leg of the seminar series.
Ms. Montero reminded the audience of their vital role in BiPSU's globalization efforts, underlining the importance of internationalization and the importance of taking it seriously.
During the seminar, participants were trained in marketing, event holding and hosting, proposal making, among others.
Moreover, Leg 1 which transpired last April 6-8, 2022 was intended to orient the OIA with its basic duties and functions; introduce CHED support on internationalization strategic plan, policies and programs; revisit institutional mandates; establish internationalization; internationalize the curriculum; and, provide appropriate university branding.
Dr. Zipagan also mentioned that internationalization has taken a gargantuan role towards the development and image of the university.
“The initial aim of the Office of International Affairs of BIPSU is to capacitate all the key players of the internationalization endeavors of the university in order to hoist and elevate the university banner and strategically place it at par with the best performing universities in the global field,” she added.
