Representatives from Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) and the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Biliran convened at the BiPSU Convergence Room on February 12, 2026 to discuss collaborative initiatives for language-based education.
The meeting involved the BiPSU Sentro ng Wikang Filipino (SWK), as well as faculty members from the Filipino, Special Needs, and Social Studies departments. They met with DepEd officials led by Henry T. Jarina, Education Program Supervisor (EPS) in Filipino, to map out future programs and research projects.
Discussions focused on three primary areas: Meticulous Writing in the Filipino Language, Filipino Sign Language (FSL), and Indigenous People Education (IPEd). The participants explored ways to synchronize their efforts in developing educational materials and conducting research that aligns with national standards and local needs.
University President Prof. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr., EdD, CHRP emphasized the importance of this partnership in fulfilling the university’s mission of inclusive service. "This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to making education accessible and culturally sensitive for every Biliranon. By working closely with DepEd, we ensure that our research and language programs translate into tangible benefits for our learners, from our indigenous communities to those requiring specialized communication support," Prof. Cañezo stated.
The gathering aimed to strengthen the partnership and cooperation between the SWK, the university faculty, and the DepEd division. This synergy is expected to lead to a more effective and meaningful implementation of language programs across the province’s basic and higher education sectors.
Through this collaboration, BiPSU and DepEd Biliran seek to enhance the quality of instruction and ensure that educational services remain inclusive and responsive to the diverse needs of learners in the region.
